It's been a while since I updated our travel blog. Planning and scheduling for our time at home, and making more detailed plans for our Eastern travels have kept me super busy.
But here's a fun story of our time at the Grand Canyon!
After the cold nights (9 degrees!) near Zion, we were ready for some warmth...
Unfortunately, we found the remains of a foot of snow at our campground south of the Grand Canyon and freezing overnight temps. The heated indoor pool did help make up for it.
We spent a day catching up on school work, doing laundry, and enjoying the pool.
The next morning, we had a surprise for the kids. There is a hundred-year-old train line that runs from Williams, AZ to the rim of the Grand Canyon. It uses the original Pullman cars (and some fancier, newer cars, but we didn't ride in those). The trip starts with a "Wild West" show before the 2 hour ride across the Arizona landscape.
The station is one of the original stops along the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe railway, complete with a still-operable Harvey Hotel! T was especially excited for the train ride.
Everything inside the train car was original, including the cool seats that can flip to turn backwards!
It was a relaxing ride, and the temperature was perfect to open the windows just a bit.
We spent several hours at the rim checking out the historic buildings, art, getting Junior Ranger badges, and hiking.
On the ride home, there was a "train robbery" along with musicians to keep us entertained.
