Our first day in South Carolina we took a short drive to Congaree National Park. I had never heard of it before, but I'm so glad we went!
Evidently, it's known for its mosquito population. Thankfully, it was a "mild" day.
We took the boardwalk and enjoyed reading the information booklet along the way. This area was a haven for run-away slaves, and later a hide-out for bootleggers. It's not the most inviting of places to settle!
We watched several water snakes glide through the mucky black waters and were told there are wild boar.
E and T tried to imitate the "cypress knees" that stuck up all over!
The most hilarious part were the caterpillars that lined the railings most of the way. They would "dance" when you got too close!
The kids did their booklets and were sworn in as Junior Rangers. E was so excited to earn another badge for her hat.
